July 4th in the City

San Francisco FireworksLooking toward the Alcatraz side of the San Francisco Bay is the best place in the country to spend the evening of July 4th.  Sure, other towns have music and fireworks and food, but this City has magic.  Try for Coit Tower or one of the footbridges into Pier 39, early, because there will be crowds. Happy crowds.  Dancing and singing crowds.   If you’re able-bodied, park near Fort Mason or even in one of the garages near Union Square and walk to your favorite high ground for viewing.  Roads get closed, buses and cable cars get full after the fireworks, so you’ll need to be able to walk some blocks to a taxi stand or back to your car or just stay with the street party at Fisherman’s Wharf a little later.

Oh yeah, and if you want to eat out during that weekend, make your reservations today.

Fireworks and Dance Walkin

International StudentsWesterners hate to give that other coast any credit, but this time Ben Aaron was so right!  Dance Walking combines the best of all worlds:  An exercise routine that makes everyone smile and helps you meet lots of great people.  You will smile, too.  For sure.  Will pumping iron do that for you?  No way.  Only Dance Walking will. So get out there, anywhere anytime, turn on a boom box or just plug in your ipod tunes and start waling/dancing from point A to point B.

San Francisco Dance WalkersAdmittedly, the awesome Fourth of July celebration in San Berkeley studentsFrancisco brings people from all over, but who knew that would mean all over the world?  Add a little music, some fireworks and your new red sneakers.

Hot dog!

If you missed the street dancing and San Francisco Fireworksfireworks in SF today, well, there’s always next year.

A special thank-you goes to Sugar Cafe for juicing-up the first SF Dance Walkers with some free coffee this morning.
